The Blessings in Giving

By The Rev. Wendy Guyton, Deacon

Giving to God out of the many blessings that we have been given is a spiritual practice — just like prayer or meditation. It is the regular act of giving the “first fruits” of your labors to God. Giving is an act of faith based on the divine principle that everything we have comes from God’s hands.

The human life operates on giving and receiving; demand and supply, sowing and reaping, planting and harvesting. It is in- grained in each of us when we are born. Giving encourages a grateful and generous spirit and can help steer us away from being greedy or loving money too much. In fact, supporting the needs and the work of the local church is one of the main purposes of giving. By doing this we enable Church of Our Saviour to be active in helping those in our congregation and others in the community.

When we give out of the bounty that God has given us, it brings great blessings.  A grateful heart overflows, and such giving cannot be quantified, but we can know that God certainly blesses the spiritual quality of thanksgiving.
